The 4th Japanese Business Presentation Contest
 

A to Z Language Centre, Japanese language school, -organized “4th Japanese business presentation contest” was held on 15 September 2019. 

11 working professionals and 8 university students gave a speech about “work” in front of visitors.
 

Many participants from “working professional section” have worked with Japanese people, some talked about their thought, difficulties and feeling confused when they bridge the gap between Malaysian and Japanese, Japanese including judges had expressed their sympathy with their speeches. 
 

Difficulties when bridging the cultural gap between Malaysian and Japanese

The 1st prize for “working professional section” went to Ms.Adiva Azlin (works at TATEYAMA AUTO MACHINE).

Her topic was “Bridge the cultural gap between Malaysian and Japanese”.  She was talking about her difficulties when she serves interpretation between Malaysian staff and Japanese staff. 

“ For technical terms, I could manage if I learn the background, but it is hard to interpret their feelings - their thought and pressure feelings when a superior scold his subordinate.  I wish I could interpret what they want to convey”. She also gave us her idea about “mutual understanding”, for example, “she would summarise expressing anger in Malay and English and explain it to colleagues for them to understand.
 

2nd prize went to Ms.Wai Foong Foo who has worked as a web director at Web Analytics Consultants Association in Japan.

She was talking about  “common things web designers do” with a focus on the very first rule of web design.

She said during the speech “many clients require a stylish website but the most important thing is to contribute their business.  If set a clear objective, design, even one button design, will come after - this idea came up after my superior said to me, “bet your life on it”.

“Bet your life on work” could be a common thing in any business.
 

3rd prize went to Ms.Lee Shu Ning who has worked for Clisk malaysia.

She loves games and J-pop, who had learned Japanese on her own via Japanese songs and TV program.  She was talking about “Japanese culture lover visits Japan”, she is always looking for restaurants and events by using SNS when she visits Japan.  She learned Japanese via Japanese media so her Japanese sounds like a native speaker’s talk. 

 

 

High speakers level - University section


This year is 2nd time for university section.  The 1st prize went to Ms.Aina Hiyama Binti Zazuli.

Her mother is Japanese and she surrounded herself with Japanese language.  Her topics were “engineer that I want to be”, she was talking about the Japanese drama “Shitamachi rocket” and the reason why Japanese handcraft technology is high

 

 

2nd prize went to Mr.Dylan Lim Xing Ze, his topics was “being tough to be Japanese”.  He is currently teaching English and Malay to Japanese. He said during the speech, “Being tough to be Japanese because Japanese is too nice, trying to keep a promise, too polite and have to understand “reading air” culture.   Even though being tough to be Japanese, he said “I would like to work in Japan in the future”. 
 

3rd prize went to Mr. Chung Sow Shinn.  His topics was  “what I learned through tour guide experience”, he suggested the way to build a better relationship with Japanese during his speech.  He participated in the contest last year, he said “I was so nervous and could not talk properly last year but this year I did well”. During the interview after the speech, he said “ I would like to work in Japan in the future if I have a chance”.

The 1st prize winner for working professional section received All Nippon Air (ANA)  Kuala Lumpur to Tokyo return ticket, for university student section, 1 week travel package in Japan was presented by Japan Overseas Enterprise Association.  

For the 2nd prize winner for both working professional and university student sections, vouchers at Kinokuniya book store was presented, for the 3rd prize winner for both sections,  luxury stationery was presented by Kokuyo as a gift.
